NC Studio is a multi-disciplinary firm that focuses on architecture, interiors, lighting, and furniture design.  The firm has a comprehensive approach that spans from the programming phase through the design and specification of interior details.  NC Studio has been producing award-winning work since 1998 and has been a design partner with some of the nation’s leading developers.

Nancy Cromar, founder and principal of NC Studio, holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.  She gained invaluable work experience at Murphy/Jahn Architects in Chicago after graduation, before going into private practice.

Dan Owens, design partner, studied architecture at the University of Florida and the Boston Architectural Center.  He and Nancy met as undergraduates at UF and their college friendship has led to a lifetime of working together.  Their first collaborative venture began in New York City in 1985.  Eight years later, they moved the firm to Miami.  In recent years, their projects have been located in both cities.

Fundamental to the design philosophy of NC Studio is the belief that architecture and interior design should create environments that have a positive impact on the people inhabiting them.  With this conviction, the firm aims to design projects that engage users in a dialogue with the built surroundings.

NC Studio has extensive experience in the interior design of the amenity and common areas of residential condominiums.  For one of these projects, Quantum on the Bay in Miami, the client requested a design that, when finished, would be something truly unique.  “In essence they wanted the project to look like nothing that had been seen before” Cromar says.  “Such a directive was a thrilling challenge that generated a very powerful result in the interior.”

Extensive research was undertaken to discover new materials and finishes to delineate the spaces.  Custom back-painted acrylic panels, dyed wood veneers, textured tiles, and specialty plaster surfaces were employed to articulate the design.

The firm’s design for The New Harbour House, located in Bal Harbour, Florida involved all of the condominium’s amenity spaces as part of a complete renovation of the high-rise building.  The expansive first floor was redesigned to accommodate modern oceanfront living.  The Concierge desk in the lobby sets the tone for the design.  The adjacent lounge, with its curved alcoves and custom upholstered seating, is intended to encourage social interaction.

NC Studio concentrates on the interplay between space, texture, and light as a means to enhance the overall experience of a space.  Equally important is the firm’s attention to detail, which is emphasized from concept through completion.  The places created are intended to be memorable, exhibit pleasing proportions, and reveal a strong expertise in architecture and planning.
